Hey! :) :hugs: It's been a long time since we spoke but I see you're still making icons and improving! I've been peeking at your journal since new year and trying to decide if I wanted to get back to this icon business...
Your posts are really inspiring (as usual), I noticed you changed your style a little - more vibrant colors, experiments with text and textures. I enjoy seeing your "evolution" as icon maker :)
My favourite icons from this batch are: #31, #36, #57, #61, #62, #65, #64 - perfect use of colors yellow/green.

*nods* Definitely more vibrant. I'm heavily influenced by the work of makers like naive_astronaut, second_love, john_scorpy, sietepecados, and shameless666. I absolutely adore their use of saturated, vibrant colors and I've trended in that direction. I'm pushing myself on text these days. Someday I'll be a Real Girl and have a knack for text but it's slooooow going. I create icons despite my brain, not because of it.

Yes, I'm here, after all this time! ^^ I almost forgot about livejournal and how awesome it was to be here with all those wonderful people... :') I miss the times when I couldn't imagine one day without livejournal...
I vanished from livejournal after I started playing Star Wars The Old Republic - it was really time consuming. I met new people, new friends... I was active in the other corner of the Internet ;).
I didn't stop watching SPN and other shows but I didn't feel like making icons anymore :(

In my opinion you don't need to improve your Photoshop skills, your icons are perfect (ESPECIALLY if you use text - that can't go wrong, believe me)! The thing I noticed is that trends change and now some more vibrant colors (fluorescent! :P) are more "trendy". Also icon makers tend to make complicated (creative) compositions which are very risky - some look great, some are "too much".
My favourite style is negative space and I will probably stick to that (if I decide to make more icons) . Creative compositions take too much time and I can't be patient :P.

Btw - I haven't been using English FOR AGES, sorry for any mistakes!

It's eerie how we've walked similar paths. I forgot how much I enjoy LJ and the people. My time away was for sad and tragic reasons. One result of that was giving up on my dream of becoming a diplomat because I have family to take care of now who would not be good at traveling the world. THAT depressed me for a while and I wasn't up for talking to anybody. I'm better now and I have a job I love, working with some of the most amazing people I've had the pleasure of working with/for so it's all good but it was plenty of stinky before now. :)

I cannot agree with you about the "perfection" of my icons but I suspect we're all like that, much harsher in judging our own work compared to that of others.I agree with your assessment of current icon trends. I've been thinking that the trend to complex compositions are the influence of Tumblr. Plus, SPN has been around so long that making a pretty Dean or Sam or Dean and Sam or... icon is adding a million-and-one-th icon to the heap. I can appreciate that people are looking to do new and interesting interpretations of the characters or story lines but often image quality is sacrificed to get a lot into a box, which makes me sad. I prefer clear, crisp images.

I'm neither patient nor skilled enough to make tiny stories like that in a 100x100 box. I admire the skills of those who can -- but I tend to find that I still prefer the simpler compositions. But perhaps that's because that's what I can make! ;) I think that spud66cat has a gorgeous balance of image clarity and composition these days.

Your English is excellent, certainly better than my non-existent Polish, so while I understand being insecure in using a language after time away from it, I assure you that your English is still very, very good!
